UNION, WV – Mason O. Atkins, age 93, passed away Monday, March 9, 2015 at The Brier in Ronceverte, WV following a short illness. He was born May 26, 1921 in Fort Springs, WV, a son of the late Birtle Mason and Viola Armentrout Atkins. Mr. Atkins was a lifelong farmer and a pioneer in farm equipment and agricultural sales along with his late brother Vernon. He served multiple terms as a member of the Monroe County Commission and later as a Monroe County Magistrate. He was a member and elder of the Fairview Christian Church at Keenan. Survivors include his wife of 56 years Eloise Neely Atkins of Union, WV, daughter Eva Mae Hutchens and husband Mark Bates Hutchens of Charlotte, NC, daughter Ella Marie Atkins and husband Deano Ray Smith of Ann Arbor, MI, and grandchildren Lucas Atkinsmith, Alan Atkinsmith, and Stuart Atkinsmith of Ann Arbor, MI. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Saturday, March 14, 2015 at the Groves Funeral Home Chapel in Union, WV with Pastor Gene Fullen officiating. Burial will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Keenan, WV. Friends may call Friday, March 13, 2015 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Ivan Atkins, Avery Atkins, Mark Hutchens, Deano Smith, Lucas Atkinsmith, and Nathan Atkins will serve as Pallbearers and Travis and Kristopher Atkins will serves as alternate Pallbearers.
