Funeral services for former Sheridan-area resident Rosa "Marie" Cornie of Salem were held Friday, Dec. 30, in the chapel of Adamson's Sheridan Funeral Home. Interment took place in the Sheridan Masonic Cemetery.
Mrs. Cornie died at Alterra Clare Bridge in Salem on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005. She was 89.
Born in Hebo on May 31, 1916, she was the daughter of Fred and Marianna Naegeli.
She grew up in Buell, where she helped on the family farm. As a teenager she worked in the hops fields.
Mrs. Cornie married in 1937, but later divorced. A single parent, she supported her three children by taking in laundry, picking prunes, toiling in the filbert orchards and working at the Nestle plant in McMinnville.
When Nestle moved its operation to Mexico, she began packing chickens for Les and Millie Sweden. She later worked until her retirement as a meat wrapper at Erickson's in Salem, requiring her to move her family.
In addition to her children, her passions were bowling, pinochle, flowers and travel - especially to Sweden, where her parents were born.
"Marie was very devoted to her grandchildren and attended nearly all of their functions," her family said.
Mrs. Cornie is survived by a daughter, Marianna Wampler of Salem; a son, Robert Cornie of Beaverton; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Her ex-husband was William Conrad CORNIE.
