Dorothy A. Allison, 88, of Delmar passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Friday, April 29, 2011 at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital following a brief illness. Born in Albany, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Maud (Simmons) Bentz. Dorothy grew up in Delmar, was a graduate of Bethlehem Central High School and subsequently worked for the New York Telephone Company before starting her family. Dorothy met her late husband Alfred T. Allison during her high school years and were married for 46 years, living in Albany and raising a family of seven children. She was a communicant of both St. Patrick's Church and St. James Church in Albany. Dorothy moved back to Delmar in 1992 to live next door to her daughter. Dorothy was a full time homemaker and devoted mother, enjoying her time with her beloved children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed spending time with her dearest cousin Jane Gangai and life-long friend Robin Schaap and attending luncheons with the Bethlehem Senior Center. Survivors include her loving children, David (Cheri) Allison, Christine (Michael) Keneston, John Allison, Michael (Carol) Allison, Lynn (Tim) Pettit and Alfred J. (Michael) Allison; grandchildren, Elisha, Jennifer, Michael, Christopher, John II, Ryan, Matthew, Amanda, Shannon and Nicole; great-grandchildren, Lauren, Emma, Ciara, Natalie, Ava, Gianna and Brandon; nephew Timothy Bentz and niece Elizabeth Williams. She was predeceased by her husband Alfred T. Allison; her son Paul T. Allison and her brothers, Ralph and Frank (Pete) Bentz and sister-in-law Grace Bentz. The family would like to thank St. Peter's Hospital and the Hospice Inn for the caring and kindness during their mother's brief illness. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at 9:30 a.m. in St. Francis of Assisi Church (formerly St. James Church), 391 Delaware Ave., Albany. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, Monday, May 2, 2011 from 4-7 p.m. Interment, Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Community Hospice of Albany County, 445 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205 or Town of Bethlehem Senior Services, 445 Delaware Ave., Delmar, NY 12054.
