Maurice P. "Pete" Lemahieu 87, of Lagoon Drive, Cassopolis, formerly of Mishawaka died at 10:22 am Monday in St. Joseph's Hospital. Mr Lemahieu retired as a butcher from Wyman Furman Meats. He was born May 17 1905 in St. Andrew Belgium to Floris Alois Lemahieu and Ausgusta Christine Bassens Lemahieu. After Pete's parents passed away in 1921 and 1922, he and his sister went to live with their aunt and uncle, Richard Van Maele and Pharailde Bassens Van Maele. On October 15, 1929 in Mishawaka, he married Mary Vens. She died July 20, 1975. He is survived by a niece, Aline Bridges of St. Clair Shore Michigan. He had one sibling, Margaret De Waelsche of Detroit, Michigan. He was a member of the B.K. Club, Eagles Lodge Aerie 2093, and St. Bavo's Catholic Church. Burial was at the St. Joseph's Cemetery in Mishawaka, Indiana next to his wife, parents and aunt and uncle (the Van Maeles).
