RECENT DEATHS
AARON BECKWITH
The son of Silas and Eunice Beckwith was born Aug. 13, 1814 in old Lyme township Connecticut. The parent moved to Ohio when he was but two years old. Aaron lived during his boy life thereafter, in New Lyme and Colebrook townships, Ashtabula County. He had several brothers and one sister, of whom he was the oldest. Three of them, Josiah, Richard and Seth, are dead. Francis, Russell, Christopher and Sidney, with the sister, Mary Jane, are yet living.

Aaron was married to Lucretia Willey, Sept. 12th 1838. To them were born two sons and two daughters. The sons died young, one in infancy, the other at the age of nine years. The two daughters are yet living, Mary A. Wood and Mariva B. Woodworth. There are three grandchildren, two boys and one girl. Their mother died 16 years ago. He was married a second time June 26, 1879, to Mrs. Tryphena Dodge, who survives him.

Aaron never made a profession of religion. He was a kind father, a respected citizen. One trait specially worthy of mention was his kindness to his animals, saying to his son in law, Mr. Wood, a few days before his death that he wished him to be careful to blanket the horse while at his funeral. If a stranger were called to do chores, he would fare better to put on his old coat, so well did they know him. He lived on a farm which he cleared with his own hands 51 years less 21 days.

He died in his own home in Colebrook, Feb. 21, 1893, being ministered to during his last sickness by the kind hands of his daughter, Mary A. Wood, who with her husband, lived with and kept house for her father. His age was 78 years 6 months and 8 days.

Funeral services conducted in the Free Will Baptist church at New Lyme by Rev. J. H. Smith pastor of the Baptist church, Colebrook, and he was laid away by the side of his wife, who had so long preceded him, in S. New Lyme cemetery, New Lyme, Ohio
