BIOGRAPHICAL NOTES
(By her step-niece, Gale Boetius Perez, Find a Grave Member 47724849)

Nancy's father, Owen, was in the citrus industry business in Santa Paula. In 1959, Owen traveled to Agadir, French Morocco, where he built the first orange packing house in Agadir for Logan International.

While in Morocco, Owen received word that Nancy had become ill with leukemia. Owen flew home to be with her, and she died December 1, 1959. The color photo posted here was taken just a few months before.

Three months after Nancy passed away, on March 1, 1960, a devastating earthquake razed the town of Agadir, killing 12,000 people including her father Owen's replacement.

Nancy's premature death caused great anguish in the family and she is remembered as a very sweet, considerate and giving person.

Nancy is mentioned in a number of articles in the Santa Paula Chronicle in the 1950s. As a girl, she was a "Bluebell" Blue Bird and later a Camp Fire Girl. In high school and later, she was a member of the Methodist Youth, the Future Homemakers of America, the Saturday Dance Club, and Laeta Theta Rho (a girls' club sponsored by the Petrolia Rebekah Lodge No. 59, Santa Paula).

Nancy graduated from Santa Paula High School in 1957. Her activities included F.A.A., Thespians, World Friendship Club, Tri-Y, the Science Club, and the Drill Team. She and other girls also modeled in fashion shows, presenting fashions they had made in their sewing class. In her senior year (1957), she participated as a beauty operator in the Rotary Club's Career Day, but her true aspiration was to teach special education.
