John Milton Banks, 84, of Canton, Ga., formerly of San Diego, died Sept. 7. He was born in Altus, Okla., and was a minister for various churches in California. He served in the Navy during World War II and was a member of Alpha Gamma Sigma.
Survivors include his wife, Bernice Banks; daughter, Darla Schafer of Crabapple Falls, Ga.; and one grandchild.
Services: 10:30 a.m. tomorrow, Woodward Park Church of Christ, 7886 N. Millbrook Ave., Fresno.
Interment: Visalia Public Cemetery District, Visalia.
Arrangements: Huey Funeral Home, Canton, Ga.

Minister John Milton Banks, 84, of Canton, Ga., formerly of Altus, and several cities in California, died Sept. 7, 2007.
He was born in Altus on Oct. 4, 1922, the son of Clarence and Lennie Orbison Banks. One of his proudest accomplishments was being a member of "That Altus Band."
He attended Oklahoma A&M, Reedley College and California State University where he received his PhD degree in anthropology.
Minister Banks served congregations in California from 1946 through 1991. He also participated in a variety of secular radio and television programs during the years from 1947 to 1988.
In addition, his career included the position of Adjunct Professor for Pepperdine University where he received the honor of "Preacher of the Year" in 1980. The citation reads, "For his consistent excellence as a minister of the word, radio and television evangelist, Bible scholar and builder of churches."
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Bernice Plunk Banks of Canton; a daughter and son-in-law, Darla and jack Schafer of Crabapple Falls, Ga.; and a granddaughter, Christina Kelly of Austin, Texas.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Sept. 15, at the Woodward Park Church of Christ in Fresno, Calif. with ministers Paul Methvin and Leon Young officiating. Interment will be in the Visalia Public Cemetery District in Visalia, Calif.
Huey Funeral Home of Canton is in charge of Georgia arrangements.
