Robert was the spouse of Jane Landers Nicholson.

They were married February 3, 1825 in Lawrence County, Alabama. Performed by Robert's Uncle Lindzey Hargrove. Robert died of Tetnus due to frostbite.

They had the following children: William, Mary Jane Sandlin, Penelope Moore Wear, Henry, Martha Ann, Sarah Sallie Drane, Lucinda Ann Irwin and Elizabeth Mahalia Montgomery.

Robert was the son of William Nicholson and Penelope Moore of Garrard Co Ky.

Sept 3rd, 1853. Monday morning after prayer meeting, the door of the Church being opened for the reception of members. Came forward R.M. Nicholson and made his acknowledgements to the Church and stated he had done wrong, he had lived in sin and rebellion against God, which he had hoped the Lord had forgiven him, wished the Church would forgive him for what he had done, restore him to fellowship again. Upon 1 motion and second, the Church gave him the right hand of fellowship.
