Felix S. Franklin, also known as "Uncle Felix", was the son of John E. Franklin and Margaret (Mattie) Spikes. His father died when he was four years old from erysipelas of the nose. After his father's death, Mattie married Judge A. J. Hunter of Weatherford, Parker County, Texas and moved with her two sons to Weatherford. Felix spent his boyhood years in Parker County. At the age of 19 he moved to Estacado, Crosby County, Texas where he found employment at a ranch and began learning the cattle business. In 1887, he returned to Weatherford serving as deputy sheriff for a time. On March 13, 1887 he married Miss Fannie Lee Dean of Weatherford, Texas. A year or two later they returned to Crosby County where Felix served as the first sheriff of Crosby County. After some time he moved to Amarillo where he was in charge of the Jack Hall ranch, also engaging in the commission business. Probably no commission man in the west had a wider range of acquaintances than he. Children of Felix and Fannie are Jenna and Irene.

Furthermore, Felix was a leader in ideals, standing four-square for everything that meant progress for Amarillo and the Plains and for a finer citizenship and a better community in which he lived.
