Mrs. Johanne Anderson
After a long and lingering illness, during seven years of which she was confined to her bed, Mrs. Johanna Anderson passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Swen Benson, in Prairie Center on Wednesday of last week, November 17 (1915), at the advanced age of 93 years, 8 months and 12 days.
Johanna Anderson was born on March 4, 1822, near Christiana, Norway. She was united in marriage to Andreas Anderson on September 30, 1845. In March, 1854, they emigrated to America and settled in Wisconsin. In 1861 they came to Dakota Territory and founded a home in this then new country.
Ten children were born to this union, of which three survive. In 1903, Mrs. Anderson went to make her home with her daughter, Mrs. Benson, and remained there up to the time of her death last week.
The surviving children are Mrs. C.E. Watts of Watertown, SD, Mrs. Swen Benson of Greenfield, and Mrs. Martin Erickson of Vermillion. She also leaves twenty-one grandchildren and twenty-four great grandchildren. To these sorrowing ones the sincere sympathy of the community is extended in their hour of bereavement.
The funeral was held on Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Lutheran church, and services were conducted by Rev. Olaf Lysnes. Burial was in Bluff View Cemetery.
