Fashion Designer. During his youth Missoni was an athlete who in 1939 became World Champion student in Vienna in 400 metres race and few year later took part in the 1948 Summer Olympics at London in 4x100 Relay. He began his career as a fashion designer after marrying his wife Rosita, daughter of a textile entrepreneur. In 1953, he inaugurated his own artisan workshop textile, and creates an innovative style based primarily on lightness and colors of shawls and clothes. In 1960 Missoni dresses begin to appear in fashion magazines. In 1969, Woman's Wear Daily magazine dedicates to him the opening page, and the following year Bloomingdale's stores in New York opened a Missoni boutique inside their building. In 1973, he was honored with prestigious Neiman Marcus Fashion Award. In 1986, Missoni was appointed Commendatore della Repubblica Italiana. His health deteriorated gradually due to the untimely death of his elder son in a tragic plane crash. After a recent hospitalization for heart failure, he died at his home near Varese.
