Birth: May 28, 1805
Floyd County
Kentucky, USA
Death: Feb. 8, 1880
Napa County
California, USA

Elias was an explorer, hunter, soldier, wood sawyer, farmer, and father! He was a person well-possessed of wanderlust, daring, and stamina. He was capable of
withstanding long rides and marches under severe discomfort of weather and hunger. He helped locate a new trail across the West to California, carried the first overland letter from the United State to California with the Bidwell- Bartleson Party, farmed and was a soldiered for Captain John Sutter. He was a member of the infamous Bear Flag Party with John Grigsby, which took Northern California from Mexico in 1846; he signed the famous Los Angeles
Declaration against Mexican dictatorial rule; and he soldiered under Captain John C. Fremont. He was a man who roamed and searched for adventure, a true Pioneer. He died at the age of 74 years.
