BROWNSBERGER, Leroy Lawrence b: Sep 1 1917, Germantown, Henry Co, MO d: Oct 7 2004 bur: St. Marys Cemetery, Montrose, Deepwater Twp, Henry Co, MO Daily Democrat, Clinton MO, Oct 15 2004 - On October 7, 2004, the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, Leroy Lawrence Brownsberger began to sing his Ave Maria in Heaven. He is mourned by Dorothy Jean (Duewel) to whom his first words were "I won't let you fall." Through 63 years of marriage, he bore out these words by unwavering fidelity, heartfelt love and intimate devotion. His brother Martin, still living on the farm in Germantown where Leroy was born on September 1, 1917, is witness to Leroy's impeccable honesty and exemplary work ethic. His children, Marsha and Walt, have had in their father a vivid reflection of god's own paternal love for them. Edie, Brenda, John, Bill, Donna and Nick have been profoundly marked by their grandpa's life. By his self-sacrifice, they have been given many opportunities in life. In his example, they have seen how life should be lived. Leroy is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Jon, Nicole, Madeline, Joseph, Noah, Marcello, Mariella and as-yet unnamed Dodson. Having lost his own father at the age of six, Leroy, the youngest of nine children, overcame drought and the Depression to succeed beyond expectation in farming. He considered himself blessed to have spent his life on the land that he owned and loved. All who have known him will miss his twinkling blue eyes and his witty asides. Funeral services were held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Montrose, Monday, October 11. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery, Montrose.
