A.J. Byrd was born 2 Feb 1828 in Pulaski, Tenn.
1847-1848 Served in the Mexican American War, Co. I, 3rd Reg., U.S. Dragoons.
23 Dec 1857 Married Mary Ann Eliza Louise Parsons in Bosque County, Texas. They had eleven children.
1862-1865 Major A.J. Byrd,CSA, served under his brother-in-law, Col. William Henry Parson's, 12th Texas Cavalry as commissary of supplies, aides-de-camp, and chief of ordinance.
He was a merchant in Waco and Towash, Texas. The town of Towash is now submerged under Lake Whitney in Hill County.
1876-1877 Mayor of Waco, Texas.
1879 Wrote the "History and Description of Johnson County, and it's Principal Towns."
1880 Founder and Editor of the Weekly Telegram, the second newspaper established in Cleburne, Texas.
25 Sept. 1881, died in Cleburne, Johnson County, Texas.
