ABBOTT - Mrs. Mary, wife of Capt. Jeremiah Abbott, died at Portsmouth, in this state, Monday, Oct. 2nd.
Laboring under a mortal disease, Mrs. A. has, for a number of years, been living on the very outposts of the land of shades.
Her acute sufferings operating on a mind naturally inclined to religion, induced patience in adversity, generousness to the afflicted, and liberality to the oppressed.
A life long member of the M. E. Church, she exhibited in its phases the influences of a Christian spirit. Her friends will long miss her; the poor of the neighborhood will never cease to regret her, and her children and husband cannot supply her loss.
But she has crossed the swollen river, and those of her friends and dear ones who heard the last stroke of the grim oarsman who bore her away, can but profit by her example, and prepare to join her on the shining shore.
