Rebecca Thornburg was the daughter of Edward and Keziah (Wright) Thornburg. She married the 24th of 1st mo 1827 at Cherry Grove Friends Meeting Jacob Bales. They lived in Randolph and Wayne counties over the next three decades, moving their memberships among Cherry Grove, Springfield and White River Friends Meeting. Rebecca and her husband were disowned in 1844 from White River Friends meeting for "joining the Saparatists", likely Anti-Slavery Friends. She was the mother of six children: Jesse, Keziah, Jonathan, Joel L. Elijah and Jacob D.
