MARIETTA -- Services for R.A. Harper, 79, will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 12, 2000, at First Christian Church in Marietta with the Rev. Jim Enabnit officiating. Interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery.
Mr. Harper was born Feb. 7, 1921, in Loves Valley, Love County, Okla., to Cliff and Mary Hilton Harper. He died Wednesday, May 10, 2000, in the local hospital.
A lifetime resident of Love County, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a combat infantryman, receiving the EAME Theater Ribbon, three Bronze Service Stars, Good Conduct Medal and American Service Ribbon.
He owned Harper's Furniture and Appliance in Marietta more than 20 years, and in recent years he operated an appliance repair service. He was a member of American Legion, and a deacon at First Christian Church. He was an avid fisherman.
He and Mary Nash were married in January of 1978 at Whitesboro, Texas.
Survivors include his wife Mary, of the home; the mother of his children, Sylvia Harper, Marietta; two daughters, Sharon Hall, Falconhead, and Vanesa Roberts, Marietta; a brother, Paul Harper, Oklahoma City; sister, Virgie Koch, Ardmore; four grandchildren, Josh Hall, Kacie Roberts, Sara Roberts and Lora Roberts; and great-grandchild, Peyton Roberts. He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Virgil Harper, in 1920.
Bearers will Be C.E. Treadwell, Vernon Griffin, Bill Ferguson, Altus Gillaspy, Chuck Hite and Kenneth Gillaspy. Honorary bearers are John Yarbrough, Dr. Virgil Smith, and deacons and elders of First Christian Church.
Kennedy Funeral Home will direct services.
