HOMER, LA

Services for Buford Bennett, 73, will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, December 12, 1996 at Rose-Neath's Homer Chapel. Officiating will be Rev Tommy Parham. Graveside services will be conducted by the 12th District Dept. of Louisiana Veterans of Foreign Wars Honor Guard at Adkins Cemetery near Homer, La.

Mr. Bennett died Tuesday, December 10, 1996 at his residence. He was born in Derry, La. and was a resident of Homer. Mr. Bennett was an electrical lineman with Utility Construction. He was a WWII veteran, a member of the IBEW and a former member of the VFW. He was awarded the Bronze Star and recognized by the French Government.

Survivors include his wife, Catherine D. Bennett of Homer, La; four sons and daughters-in-law, Buford Bennett, Jr. and Helen of Homer, La., Bradley R. and Necy Bennett of Homer, La., Carl and Tammy Bennett of Saline, La., Alan and Donna M. Bennett of Natchitoches, La.; daughter, Linda Joy Bennett of Homer, La.; brother, Van D. Bennett of Minden, La.; 11 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Buford and Catherine were married on June 6, 1942


Buford Bennett served in various duty positions during his tour in World War II, starting as an automatic rifleman, then progressing to Team Leader, Squad Leader and then as a Platoon Sergeant. Buford served with the 5th Infantry Division which fell under GEN George S. Patton Jr's 3rd Army. SSG Bennett attained many awards and decorations such as:

The French Croix De Guerre (Highest French Award for Valor)
French Fouragee
Army of Occupation Medal
World War II Victory Medal
American Campaign Medal
European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal
