Lawrence Stanley Bodziner,81, retired OB-GYN Physician, died Sunday, August 7, 2005 at his residence, under the care of Hospice Savannah, Inc.
He was born in Savannah, GA and was a graduate of Benedictine Military School, the University of Georgia, and the Medical College of Georgia. He served his residency in OB-GYN at Touro Infirmary in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was a veteran having served in the US Army - Air Corps. He had formerly served as a member of Congregation Agudath Achim and was Past President of the Congregation, and a member of the Chevra Kadisha.
He had served as Chairman of the University of Georgia Campaign in Savannah, GA. He had practiced medicine in Savannah since 1953, with his late partner, Dr. Meyer Schneider, and he was the Consummate Physician, giving 110% to his patients. He had formerly served as Chief of Staff at St. Joseph's Hospital, and was the 1st Board Certified OB-GYN Physician in Savannah, GA.
He was a wonderful provider for his wife and children, and a Philanthropic Human Being. He was a member of Congregation B'nai Brith Jacob Synagogue.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dena Yaschik Bodziner of Savannah, GA; a daughter, Brenda B. Rabhan of Richmond, Virginia; two sons, Dr. Richard and Merry Bodziner of Savannah, GA and Michael Bodziner and his friend, Gary McNatton both of San Francisco, California; a sister, Laurette B. Sussman of Jacksonville, FL; five grandchildren, Jonathan Rabhan, Brian Rabhan, Alisha Rabhan, Erica and Lisa Bodziner.
Active Pallbearers: Dr. Paul Kulbersh, Charles Sussman, Greg Hirsch, Harvey Rosenzweig, Jonathan Rabhan, Brian Rabhan, Dr. Freddie Rabhan, and Frank Slotin. Honorary pallbearers will be: Leon Slotin, Albert Ullman, and Marvin Rosenzweig.
The family will sit Shiva at the residence.
Graveside Services: 11 a.m. Monday in Bonaventure Cemetery, with Rabbi Avigdor Slatus, officiating. Remembrances: the Savannah Jewish Federation - in care of the Endowment Fund of Lawrence and Dena Bodziner; Congregation B'nai Brith Jacob Synagogue, or Benedictine Miitary School.
