I am copying this from a very old handwritten article in my mother's hand. Whether she copied this or it was something she wrote and read at a family reunion, I do not know. My parents wed in 1927, making it possible for those mentioned as present to have been living at the time it was compiled. The one sheet of ruled paper appears to not be the entire article, but it is all that I have.
"Henry Foster was born in 1806 in NJ. His parents moved to Stuben [Steuben] Co NY when he was quite young. His father was a soldier in the Am. War of 1812 and perished at the battle of Lundy Lane so that young Foster at an early age began to make his own career. When 19 yrs of age he moved to Canada, where by his unaided efforts he became possessor of a good farm. There he was united in marriage to Miss Juliza Lamberton of NY, May 25, 1829. In 1837 Mr. Foster bought a farm in Indiana. Then he returned to Canada making the entire journey by foot. The following year he started with his family and household goods for the new home. At Detroit old neighbors induced them to change their route to Flat River, Mich. arriving at the residence of Mr. Peck in Vergennes in August 1838, making the entire journey in 3 weeks with 2 teams [of horses] driving the stock with them. A few days later they settled in their little pioneer home on the farm in Vergennes where he resided until his death, which occurred Sept 23, 1892. aged 88 yrs.
Seven children were born to them. 1 daughter now living. 8 Grand children about 35 great [grand] children and several great [-great] grand children.
Juliza Lambrton Foster had 5 sisters. The oldest Mrs. Nancy Waters.
The next was Aunt Sarah Lamberton Abel [this is what makes me believe mom copied this, as Sarah was grandmother to my father] who has two daughters living who are with their families here today. Two sons passed away, one, Eddie Abel the father of Carl and Lyle who are here today. She leaves 9 great grand children.
Jane Lamberton Curtis, another sister Hadley Curtis her son is with us today. Two daughters one of whom lives at Mt Healthy Ohio, one in Kentucky. We regret that they cannot be with us today."
