Our loving and compassionate husband, father, grandfather, and friend Jack Blaine Allred, passed away September 28, 2012 at the Uintah Care Center in Vernal, Utah surrounded by his family.
He was born September 21, 1926 to John Victor and Alice Kay Allred in Naples, Utah.
After graduating from Uintah High School in 1944 he enlisted in the US Army. Dad proudly served his country in the South Pacific during World War II.
After being released from Military Service he returned to Vernal and met and married Virginia Dow.
Dad is survived by his wife of 63 years and 3 sons. John (Jeane) Allred, Don (Polly) Allred, and Rand (Beckie) Allred all of Vernal. He is also survived by three grandsons, three granddaughters, four great granddaughters and one great grandson.
Dad and Cal Gibbs first began business at a Union 76 Station on the corner of First West and Main Street in Vernal. In 1958 they started Cal and Jacks Fleet Tire Service. They built and moved to 650 East Main where they remained for ten years, until they sold to Quality Tire Company. Dad then became a barber and enjoyed cutting hair for several years, but he wanted back in the tire business. He bought the business back from Quality Tire and started Jacks General Tire. Dad worked there until his retirement in 2004.
Dad had been a member of the Chamber of Commerce, the Board of Directors of the Jaycees, the board of Directors and past President of the Vernal Rod and Gun Club, past President of the Rotary Club, and a charter member of the Vernal Elks Lodge.
He served on the landfill advisory board, the original fair grounds board as well as the Western Park board, and on several different committees of the Dinosaur Round Up Rodeo, including President and Grand Marshall for the 1992 42nd Dinosaur Round Up Rodeo. Among other positions, dad served on the Vernal City Council for eight years.
A lifetime member of the V.F.W., the American Legion Whit Beck #11, and the DAV, of the American Legion. He has helped with the military services of veterans and placing the flags on their graves in the county cemeteries and along the main lanes of the cemeteries.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at the Glines 8th Ward Chapel, 1270 West 1500 South.
There will be a viewing on Tuesday evening from 6~8 P.M. at the Ashley Valley Funeral Home.
Interment will be in the Vernal Memorial Park with Military Honors provided by the American Legion and the Utah National Guard.
