Fifty days after surviving the Battle of Antietam, Private Birge died during enlistment. Register of Deaths of Volunteers states he died on October 30, 1862 of Typhoid Fever in a Regimental Hospital.
This record is a cenotaph, based upon a possible location of burial which considers Pvt Birge's place of death. If a burial location in central Pennsylvania is identified, particularly within Co. I's Huntingdon County, this record should be deleted.
