"In Gethsemane, the holiest of all petitioners prayed three times that a certain cup might pass from Him. It did not. After that, the idea that prayer is recommended to us as sort of infallible gimmick may be dismissed. "
C. S. Lewis

Broderick Caleb Owen was born to us on January 28, 1999. We knew that he would be born with a very serious heart defect...and how we prayed for our special baby! Many, many prayers. Prayers for a miracle, prayers for strength, prayers for healing, prayers for grace, and many many prayers that his little life would be spared.
Baby Brodie was born strong and "healthy", except for the fact that he had a hypoplastic right heart, and transposition of the great blood vessels. This meant that he would need immediate surgery, which he had at only 5 days old. The emotional and spiritual turmoil and pain while we watched our baby fight for his life is inexpressible. To be a parent and watch helplessly while your child suffers is the ultimate pain.
Little Brodie died on February 17, 1999 in my arms. It was incredibly difficult to have to give him back to the Lord so soon! Though my arms miss holding him, there is comfort in knowing he is in the arms of Jesus!

"Let the beloved of the Lord rest securely in Him, for He shields him all day long, and the one the Lord loves rests on His breast." Deuteronomy 33:12
