ATLANTA, Ga. — PELLICCIONI – Aurelius J. "A.J." "Ray," 91, Atlanta, Ga., formerly of Ebensburg, passed away May 3, 2011, in Atlanta. Born May 3, 1920, in Cresson, son of the late Savino and Mary J. (Rotondaro) Pelliccioni. Preceded in death by sisters, Helen Rose (Sam) Prebish and Louise Brewer; as well as brother, Louis Chester Pelliccioni. Survived by wife, the former Lucille Dalpra; and daughters, Donna, married to Charles Sharbaugh, Atlanta; and Claudia, married to John Hickey, Kennesaw, Georgia. Also survived by granddaughters, Greta and Emily Sharbaugh, Atlanta. Retired in 1982 after 34 years as a public school educator in Cambria and Somerset counties. He served as a teacher in Adams Township (Forest Hills), Portage Area and Central Cambria schools. He was head football coach at Portage Area and Central Cambria schools; served as high school principal, assistant superintendent and superintendent of the North Star School District; served in the Intermediate Unit 8 as coordinator of nonpublic schools; and as an instructor in education at St. Francis University, Loretto. A graduate of the former Cresson High School, St. Francis College and the University of Pittsburgh. He also attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania and Penn State University. A U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, he served 42 months as a sergeant in the former Anglo-Egyptian Sudan in central Africa during World War II. Member of American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Member and past president of Ebensburg Rotary Club and the recipient of the club's Paul Harris Fellowship Award. Longtime member of Holy Name Roman Catholic Church, Ebensburg, where he served as lector, past president of the Nocturnal Adoration Society, member of Council 522 Knights of Columbus and Prince Gallitzin Assembly of Fourth Degree Knights. In his leisure time, he enjoyed meeting the fellows at the 10 o'clock coffee club, oil painting, short wave radio, reading and traveling. Since moving to Georgia, Ray was active with the King's Bridge Retirement Center's Men's Club, Current Affairs Group, and as elected representative to the Residents' Council. Friends will be received from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, at Askew-Houser Funeral Homes Inc., Ebensburg, where vigil prayer service will be held Wednesday evening. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 12, at Holy Name Church, the Rev. Monsignor Arnold L. Gaus, celebrant. Interment, Holy Name Cemetery. Knights of Columbus Memorial Service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ray's memory may be made to The Carmelite Community of the Word, 394 Bem Road, Gallitzin, Pa. 16641.
