Captain James T. Carson of San Diego, CA passed away on Monday, April 22, 2013 in Encinitas, CA. Captain Carson was born in Havertown, Pennsylvania on February 26, 1933. He attended the University of Miami, in Miami Florida where he received a bachelors degree in Business Administration. After graduation, Captain Carson entered the Naval flight program in August, 1955. He received his commission as an Ensign in December, 1955 and received his designation as a Naval Aviator in April, 1957.

Captain Carson "Jim" loved and excelled in all sports but basketball was his passion. He played in high school at Havorford High and then went on to play on an athletic scholarship for the University of Miami. During flight training, he played for the Navy Goshawks and then went on to play in the All Navy Championship, winning two years in a row.

Captain Carson was married to the love of his life, Virginia Harrelson Carson (Ginny) on July 5, 1957. Together they enjoyed water skiing, fishing, golf, tennis and traveling. They had three children; Kimberlie, Cheri and Andrea.

Captain Carson served in the Navy for 31 years. A veteran of the Vietnam War, he was a helicopter pilot in Helicopter Attack (Light) Squadron THREE (HAL-3) and was awarded twenty-two Air Medals (two for single action) and numerous other awards and citations.

Upon retiring from the Navy in 1986, he opened Carson Insurance Services, working in the health insurance field. He was an active member of the Business Boosters of East County for twenty years and served as President one of those years.

Captain Carson will be remembered by his loving wife and their children: Cheri and Andrea. He is also survived by his sister, Margaret (Maggie) Foreman; cousin, Richard Carson; sister-in-law, Ruth Carson; brother and sister-in-law, Oscar and Nan Barrow, and six grandchildren: Alyssa, Samantha, Jennifer, Gennifer, Michael, and Matthew. Predeceased in death by his daughter, Kimberlie Carson; brothers, William Carson and Jack Carson; and his parents, William and Sarah Carson.

The Carson family appreciates all the love and care he received over the past year from his wonderful caregivers at Silverado.

Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing for Captain Carson between 4:00 PM and 8:00 PM on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 and his funeral at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at El Camino Memorial, Sorrento Valley Chapel, 5600 Carroll Canyon Rd, San Diego. Interment will follow at the park. A celebration of his life will follow at the Carson family home.
