....From Genealogy Research by Maureen Flanigan and Kathryn Flanigan. It was obtained from census reports, grave stones, church and civil records in Ireland, newspaper obituaries, Springfield city directories, and the written and oral history from members of their family.

Edward's family can be traced back to Roundfort, Kilcommon area, near Hollymount, County Mayo, Ireland.

Edward Patrick Flannigan b. Oct 13, 1892 Springfield, OH d. 1931 in a train accident. In 1918 he was a switchman. He married on Jan 29, 1918 Hanna B. Sullivan. (also listed as Hannah J. in church records) b. May 4, 1893 County Cork, IRE d. Jun 17, 1918 (vol 2609/cert 35975) and had no children. She was buried at Calvary Cemetery on June 19, 1918. She was the daughter of John Sullivan and Mary Loney. The county health records show an infant Hannah Sullivan who died in still birth in 1916. This infant may be related in someway to Hannah.

Married only three months, Ed enlisted in the US Army in Springfield on April 30, 1918 and was honorably discharged on June 24, 1919 about a year after his first wife died. He served overseas in WWI from Oct 1918 to June 1919. He married again Jun 14, 1922 Ellen Louise Kelly (aka Louise) b. Apl 10, 1892 d. Aug 15, 1923 of tuberculosis. She was the youngest child of 11 children and was the daughter of John R. Kelly from Ireland and Ellen Tehan from Massachusetts and went by the name Louise.

In 1920 Louise was living with her sister Florence Kelly Tehan and her family and was a stenographer for a chancellor. Louise was age 30 when she married, Ed was 29. They had one child, Agnes Flannigan b. Mar 7, 1923.

After Ed's second wife, Ellen Louise Kelly Flannigan died, Agnes and her father Ed, moved in to live with his mother Bridget. Delia, Ed's sister, hired a housekeeper, Mabel (aka May) McHenry for her mother since the workload of having a child in the house was difficult for Bridget who was by now in her mid 60's. Ed, who worked the railroad had to leave his daughter Agnes while he worked.

About 1928, when Mabel was 20 and Ed was about 33 they married. Mabel (b. ~Dec 24, 1905 OH d. unknown) In the 1920 census, about 10 years before Mable and Ed married, there is a McHenry family living on Washington St. in Jefferson, Madison County, OH. The town is way between Columbus and Springfield. Father is James McHenry, 46 from Kentucky, a farm laborer and no wife is listed. His wife Belle Moore McHenry is living elsewhere in town. His children are: Elizabeth age 17 OH, Myrtle age 14 OH, Mabel M. age 10 OH, Davy (son) age 8 OH and Hellen age 5 OH. In the 1910 and 1915 directories an Elizabeth McHenry is working in Springfield as a domestic servant. It is possible that her younger sister Mabel also went to Springfield to find domestic work and ended up in the Flannigan household.

In the 1930 census Ed and Mabel are living in the Flannigan homestead on Edwards Ave. in Springfield. Mabel is from OH as are her parents ( parents info from previous census doesn't match above census data) and that she married at age 20. They had three children:

* Madonna Mary "Donna" Flannigan (Oct. 1928 - still living)
* Catherine Flannigan (Nov. 1929 - still living)
* Unknown: One child, probably born after Catherine, believed to have died at birth.

He and his family were living at 1667 Edwards Avenue in Springfield, Ohio when he was killed in a railroad accident on May 1, 1931 in White Sulfur, OH. He left behind his wife Mabel and young children.
