Joseph Thomas Adams, 20, of Route 1 Murphysboro died at St. Andrew's Hospital Sunday morning about two hours after being fatally injured in an automobile accident.

It was believed he was the driver of the car and lost control on the curve just west of Murphysboro on Route 144. Viewers of the wrecked car called it the most damaged car they had seen outside of one being hit by a train.

Two other 20 year old Murphysboro youths were seriously injured in the wreck and remained in very critical condition at St. Andrew's Hospital at this writing. They were identified as Calvin Smith, Jr. and John Needham.

Adams had served a 3-year term of service in the U.S. Army and had enlisted in the U.S. Air Force with a schedule to report for duty on Monday.

He was a member of St. Andrew's Church, where funeral services ...

Adams is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Adams of Route 1; sisters, Mrs. Ross Reiman and Miss Helen Adams of Murphysboro; and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Adams of St. Marys, Mo. and Mrs. Clara Morrison of Bowling Green, Mo.
