Dorothy Elmeta ( Dietzman ) Burlingame, 91, passed away on February 7, 2011 with her family by her side in Lee's Summit, Missouri.
Mrs. Burlingame was born on October 21, 1919, in Sedalia, Missouri to Gustav and Minnie Bell Dietzman.
On September 12, 1936, she married James Harold Burlingame of Sedalia. Mr. Burlingame preceded her in death in 1978.
Mrs. Burlingame attended Smith-Cotton High School and worked for many years at Lamy Manufacturing. In 1970, Mr. and Mrs. Burlingame moved to Holden, MO and became part owners of Holden Packing and Meat Company, until Mr. Burlingame's passing in 1978.
Mrs. Burlingame enjoyed the huge farm in Holden, especially when the entire family would come to visit on the holidays. The grandchildren recall many memories of their time on the farm with Grandma and Grandpa laughing, fishing and hunting. There was never a dull moment on the farm.
After her husband passed away, Mrs. Burlingame moved to Lee's Summit, MO and worked at Unity Village as a baker until her retirement in 1980.
After her retirement, Mrs. Burlingame took great joy in visiting her many grandchildren all over the country and in Europe. She was lovingly referred to as the "Go-Go Granny". She also had a great love for crocheting, and took great pride in giving each family member a handmade bedspread, doilie, lap throw, and her last project: stocking hats!!
Mrs. Burlingame also had a great love for her little black and tan dachshund named Sam, who stayed by her side each and every day until he passed away four years ago. She had a very special friend and care giver for the past ten years of Harrisonville, MO.
She was preceded in death by both parents; four siblings: Charles Dietzman, Margaret Carson, and Kenneth Dietzman all of Sedalia, and Mary Dumsday of Illinois.
She has four surviving children; a son & spouse of Sedalia; a son of Kansas City, KS; a daughter & spouse of Lee's Summit, MO; & a son of Green Ridge, MO. Mrs. Burlingame was preceded in death by 4 infant children and her oldest granddaughter. She is survived by 18 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great grandchildren; 3 sisters-in-laws all of Sedalia and numerous close family and friends.
Funeral services will be at 1:00PM on Thursday, February 10, 2011 at Ewing-Schutte-Semler Funeral Home in Sedalia (660)826-2622. Interment will be at Highland Sacred Gardens where she will rest beside her beloved husband James, in Sedalia, Missouri.
Visitation will begin at 11:00AM on Thursday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers included friends & family members .
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in her memory to John Knox Village Hospice in care of the funeral home.
