Richard loved his family tragedy struck when Richard was 16 years old, his beloved sister Marie, was tragically killed when a fire truck struck the car she was riding in. She the selfless woman she was threw herself over her two children, and suffered a major head injury, that eventually took her life.

Richard seen the accident he was following behind her, as they traveling home, after the game. Dad always felt if he had not had that game, his sister would not have died. This single event in time changed his life forever.

After returning from the army in 1964 he met and Married Joyce Edwards, and helped to raise three Children Joyce had from a previous marriage, Merlin, Sharon, and Donald Edwards. Richard and Joyce had one son Raymond Richard Pearce. In our family we do not like the words step, or in-laws, we are all their children. Sadly Richard and Joyce Divorced in 1974, they too remained friends.
