VANDALIA UNION - 17DEC1903 - A PIONEER DEAD
Died at his home in Sharon Twp. Sunday morning, 13Dec, Wallace Browning, one of the oldest & highly respected citizens of that Twp. Cause of death, old age. He bore his illness patiently & was ready to go when the summons came. His death had been expected for several weeks.
Mr. Browning was born in Monroe Co., TN, 01Mar1816. He came to IL in 1827 & located in Sharon Twp. & has lived in Sharon Twp. for over 56 years. In 1847 he was married to Miss Mary Matthews who survives him. To them were born 9 children of whom 7 also survive him. He had been a member of the Primitive Baptist church for over 40 years.
Beside leaving a widow & 7 children, Mr. Browning had at the time of his death 41 grandchildren & 14 great-grandchildren.
the children still living are John H., Cyrus, Levi & William; & Mrs. E. Row, Mrs. Marinda Whitten & Mrs. Clara Mattes. The 2 dead were Alfred & Clara, the latter dying in infancy.
