CORA E. AUSTIN
(1901-2003)

Cora Elizabeth Austin passed away July 24, 2003 in Oklahoma City, OK after a brief illness. She was born at Navajo (Oklahoma) in Indian Territory on April 6, 1901 to William Jefferson Solomon and Virginia Isabella (Pierson) Solomon. She married William H. Duff on December 28, 1919, in what use to be Murdock, OK, South of Little Ax. They had three sons, Carl L. Duff, Wiley William Duff, Edward Leon Duff, and one daughter, Irene (Pensoneau-Brown) Duff. She was remarried on August 13, 1933, to Charles M. Austin in Kansas City, MO. They moved to the Austin Ranch in Little Ax, OK in 1935 where they raised their family and worked their cattle ranch. She and her daughter, Irene, lived in California for the past 22 years. They moved back to Oklahoma City in June of 2003.

She is survived by 2 children, Carl L. Duff and Irene Pensoneau-Brown, 8 grandchildren, Ralph R. Pensoneau, Gene Pensoneau, Michael Terry Duff, Wiley Lawrence Duff, William Austin Duff, Richard Alan Duff, Mary Elizabeth Duff-Speaks and Lori Duff-Shelton, 14 great grandchildren, 16 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, two sons, Edward and Wiley Duff and grandson Charles (Chuck) Dale Duff.

Ms. Austin established many friendships and aquaintences throughout her life in the Norman area. She was not only a ranch wife and homemaker but worked at the Oklahoma Student Union cafeteria during World War II. She also worked at Allard Cleaners, Hampton's Flowers and was proud of the fact that she was the first employee of Earl's Flowers and Gifts in Norman. Cora was very active with her family throughout her life and was admired and loved by all who knew her. She first crossed the Red River as a child by covered wagon and last crossed it at 75 miles per hour in a new Buick on her recent return from California. Cora Austin was a true Oklahoma pioneer and that spirit and attitude helped her maintain a quality life her entire 102 years. She leaves that legacy for her family who loved this very special lady very much and will miss her every day.

Services will be at John M. Ireland Funeral Home & Chapel, 120 S. Broadway, Moore, OK at 11:00 A.M on Tuesday, July 29, 2003, with interment at IOOF in Norman, OK. Under the direction of the John M. Ireland Funeral Home & Chapel.
