Richard W. Akermann, 83, died Friday afternoon, February 9, 2013, at Hospice House, following a lengthy illness.
He was born December 29, 1929 in Pavonia, Ohio to the late Harry M. and Elsie ( nee Strine) Akermann.
Richard married the former Mary McClain on August 31, 1956 and she preceded him in death on March 13, 2002.
He is survived by his children, Jill Akermann of Marble Cliff, Ohio; Mark J. Akermann of Loudonville, Ohio; Kyle L. (Amy) Akermann of Polk, Ohio; his brother, Ronald M. (Jeri) Akermann of Ashland; a granddaughter, Gretchen M. Gilmer of Marble Cliff, Ohio; sisters-in-law, Patricia Akermann and Mary Hutton, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary and two brothers, Robert Akermann and Marshall Akermann.
Richard was a 1948 graduate of Ashland High School. Following High School he served in the United States Naval Reserve . Richard was a long-time employee of the Mansfield Tire & Rubber Co. and retired from U-Brand.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Ashland and a 50-year member of Ashland Masonic Lodge #151 F.& A.M.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at the Denbow-Primm-Kemery Funeral Home with the Rev. Dan Bilkert officiating. Burial will be in the Savannah Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the funeral home on Tuesday.
