Charles was the son of Thomas Jefferson and Sarah Nebraska Underwood.
Charles was married to Nora Rosetta McLain, and fathered 13 children.
Charles Otto Underwood was a Corporal in Arkansas National Guard. He was in Battery A of the 142nd Field Artillery Regiment Stationed in Springdale Arkansas. He was one of one hundred and forty one men that were mobilized to Federal service on August 5, 1917. After a brief amount of training at camp Beauregard in Louisiana, he was shipped off to France to fight measles, influenza, and the German army. He made it back to see his daughter for the first time around April 12, 1919.
Him and his wife and 13 children settled in Roaring Springs Texas.
