Herman Doyle Cupp, 88, of Buchanan Dam passed away March 16, 2013. He was born to William Henry and Annie Josephine (Jackson) Cupp in McKinney, Texas, on Aug. 24, 1924.

Herman proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He fought in Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. He was a prisoner of war of the German army but, with several other soldiers, escaped.

After his discharge in October 1948, he began ranching and trucking in Texas. He married Helen J. Spence on Nov. 10, 1960, in Odessa. They continued to truck after their marriage. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and hunting.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Helen J. Cupp of Buchanan Dam; children, Jimmy Doyle Cupp and Alma Cathleen Holder, both of Taft, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Also surviving him are stepchildren, Phyllis Tibbetts of Lake Isabella, Calif., and Phillip Taylor of Texas.
