Mrs. Lillie Mae Smith Agee — ORANGEBURG
Mrs. Agee died Saturday, May 21, at Palmetto Health Richland Hospital.
Funeral services for Mrs. Lillie Mae Smith Agee, 89, of 1687 Longwood Drive, Orangeburg, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 27, 2005, at Antioch Baptist Church, Bowman, with the Rev. Willie Bates officiating. Burial will be in Crestlawn Memorial Gardens, Orangeburg.
She was born April 22, 1916, in Orangeburg County, a daughter of the late John Walter Smith and the late Minnie Williams Smith. She was educated in the Orangeburg County school system. She accepted Christ and joined Antioch Baptist Church at an early age.
She moved to Brooklyn, N.Y., and later relocated to Detroit, Mich., where she met and married the late Walter Agee. While she made her home in Detroit, she worked hard, traveled extensively and retired as a nursing assistant. She became a member of Second Baptist Church of Detroit where she worked untiringly, receiving many awards including being crowned Mammoth Queen. Mrs. Agee remained faithful in the work of the Lord until her health began to fail. She returned to South Carolina in 1999 and rejoined Antioch Baptist Church. Upon returning, she resided with her niece, Shirley T. Ford, and later was a long-time resident of Longwood Plantation Assisted Living Home, Orangeburg. Her only son, Clarence Smith; daughter-in-law, Minnie Peals Smith; six brothers; and three sisters preceded her in death.
Survivors include three grandchildren, Alan Smith of Atlanta, Ga., Sheryl Smith and Michael Smith, both of Teaneck, N.J.; one great-granddaughter, Ashley Smith; one great-great-granddaughter, Rochelle Smith; one sister, Senetta Smith of Jersey City, N.J.; two special nieces and caregivers, Shirley T. Ford and Brenda Avant; 11 nieces; seven nephews; three sisters-inlaw; and a host of relatives and friends.
Friends may call at the residence of her niece, Ms. Shirley T. Ford, Orangeburg, and at Glover's Funeral Home.
