Nilah Pennington Andrews, of Sarasota died March 29, 2011.

Nilah Pennington Andrews was born Oct. 20, 1920 in Brady, Texas, she attended business college in Austin, Texas, and served with the Textbook Division of the State Department of Education in Austin, resigning in early 1943 to enter the Women's Army Corps, where she served for 33 months. She was stationed in the European Theater of Operations for 19 months, earning the Bronze Star. She was discharged as a Warrant Officer.

She was active in many community activities in McLean, Va., where she resided prior to coming to Sarasota in 1969. She was a member of the Longboat Key Club and served as President of the Women's Golf Association. She was a member of Bird Key Yacht Club.

She is preceded in death by her husband, James Douglas Andrews.

She is survived by one daughter, Raven Andrews Hamilton of Versailles, Ky.; one son, Patrick Douglas Andrews of Sarasota; four grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Toale Brothers. Burial will be private at Florida National Cemetery.
