Alfred William Colley, the beloved husband of Alice Wells Colley, was born August 25, 1853, in Rochester, County of Kent, England and died after a lingering illness of several years, on December 16, 1925, aged 72 years, 3 months and 21 days. Mr. Colley left England July 20, 1872, coming to New York, whence he went to Toronto, joining his mother and father, Edward George and Mary Colley, on a farm in Medonte.

In 1874, he was married to Miss. Lucy McFarland, when he removed to Matcheetish, where he engaged in farming and lumbering. Of this union three children were born who survive him: Mrs. Rhoda Breakman, Hood River, Oregon; Mrs. Ada Beal, Seattle, and John W. Colley, Edmonds, Washington. Later he removed to Coldwater, Ontario, where he engaged in manufacturing brick and tile in the summer and lumbering in the winter, operating there a sawmill. He also engaged in contracting and building.

His first wife died September 30, 1902, and December 18, 1905, he married Mrs. Alice Wells of Lansing, Michigan, who has been a faithful and loving wife and a kind and affectionate mother to his children. IN 1909 he retired from business and located in Seattle where he has since lived. He has been a faithful and loving husband, a kind and affectionate father and in all things until his death has been a trusting and true believer in Jesus Christ. At the time of his death he was a communicant member of the Ballard Presbyterian Church. Throughout his long illness he witnessed a steadfast trust in his Savior and his God. In patience he endured until the end, when the Father in Heaven called him from the trials of earth to the better and happier life.

Mr. Alfred Coley was a brother of the later J.F. Colley of Bracebridge and the widow a sister of Mrs. J.F. Colley of this town. At one time he lived in Oakley township and was well acquainted in Bracebridge.
