Elliott Alexander "Uncle Doc" McCoy was the son of Uriah McCoy and his wife Elizabeth Rutherford.
He married Louisa Vicy Stafford on 9 Feb 1879 in Logan, West Virginia. They were the parents of 10 children, 7 daughters and 3 sons.

Ida McCoy Varney, her twin sister Mida McCoy, Minerva Minnie McCoy, Lena McCoy, Ballard McCoy, Anna McCoy Hatfield, Ortha Salene McCoy Thorn, Helix McCoy, Frederick McCoy, Janet Jennie McCoy, and Robert Bob McCoy.

He left his family about the time of the birth of his youngest son, Robert Bob McCoy, and disappeared. His oldest daughter, Ida McCoy Varney, told the family that one day her Dad said I can't take this anymore and just up and left. The family never knew what happened to him. However, thanks to the great research done by Waukesha Sammons, his life afterwards has finally been discovered.

He married Lydia Scott (Morris) approx in 1905 and moved off to Fayetteville, Fayette, West Virginia. She was the daughter of James Thomas Scott & Louvinia Louisa Stafford. She was married 1st to William A T W Morris 1858-1942, whom she apparently left to go with Doc McCoy.
