John H. Adams 1928 ~ 2006 LAYTON - John H. Adams, 78, died Thursday, August 24, 2006 from complications of Alzheimer's disease. He was born April 28, 1928, in Ogden, Utah. The son of Clay Q. and Norma Layton Adams. He left high school to join the U.S. Navy during World War II. He served on the battleship USS Nevada. After the war, he continued his education and graduated with the Davis High School class of 1947. He then attended Weber College and Utah State University. In 1956, he married Joanna Lee Brooks. In 1953, he became a member of the Layton City Volunteer Fire Department. In 1957, he was selected Fire Chief. In 1972, he was the first full-time Fire Chief. The fire station at 199 N. Fort Lane was named after him in honor of his many years of service. He was honored to become a lifetime member of the Utah State Fireman's Association and the Utah State Fire Chief's Association. He is survived by his sister, Julie Adams Kimball, Vancouver, WA; his brother, Pat C. Adams, Holladay, UT; and many loving nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 30, 2006, 11 a.m., at Lindquist's Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends and family may call Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
