Margaret Ann Carpenter Fretwell Alexander passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, October 20, 2013. She was born November 13, 1946 to James and Margaret Carpenter in Glen Ridge, New Jersey and moved to Tremonton, Utah with her family at the age of 14. She was a beautiful girl with a sparkling smile, and she enjoyed being a Brownie, and later a Girl Scout. She graduated from Bear River High School in 1964 and went on to earn a degree from Stevens Henagar College of Business.
Margaret was a strong and dedicated Mom and Grandma who could always be counted on for wise and honest advice, long talks, and a good dose of humor. She cared deeply for her five children, twelve grandchildren, and two great grandchildren - who will always remember her counsel and her love. She was married to William George Fretwell in October of 1965. The couple was married for 20 great years, raised a loving family of five children and later divorced. Later in life Margaret married the second love of her life, David Alexander of North Ogden, UT. She enjoyed precious time dancing, camping, and fishing with Dave and cared for him through his battle with ALS until he passed away on October 2, 2000.
Margaret was an intelligent and organized woman who took great pride in her work. She excelled in her long career as a personnel manager and the Internal Revenue Service, and also enjoyed part time work as a medical transcriptionist. After retiring from the IRS, Margaret found a part time opportunity with a great group of people at Electrical Wholesale Supply in Layton Utah. She enjoyed this time of her life immensely and often spoke fondly of her colleagues at EWS. She touched countless lives in her professional roles, and made several lifelong friends along the way.
Along with busy work and family life, Margaret enjoyed creative hobbies including crochet, scrapbooking and genealogy. She was a talented dancer, and met her second husband Dave on the dance floor. She was also an enthusiastic member of the Red Hat Society where she had great fun with the "Definitely Dazzling Divas" Red Hat group, which she founded.
Margaret was preceded in death by her father James Carpenter, her mother Margaret Carpenter, her brother Robert Carpenter, and her second husband David Alexander.
She is survived by her first husband William Fretwell, her sons Troy Fretwell, Jon Fretwell & wife Linda, Michael Fretwell & wife Michelle and Kenneth Fretwell, her daughter Mitzi Fretwell Dow & husband Don, her brothers Jim Carpenter and Frank Carpenter, and her sister Linda Coburn MacCarty.
The family wishes to give special thanks to Dr. Vincent Hansen and his wonderful staff, the amazing angels at Caregivers Support Network, the kind and generous members of her condominium community, Barry Hunt for his friendship and service, and finally to Lindsey Martinez, Michelle Gallegos, Mitzi Fretwell and Troy Fretwell for their compassionate care as Grandma neared end of life.
