He was called Bruce by members of the family; BJ by friends and co-workers. He was born July 6, 1925 in Jackson Parish and passed away at home on Friday, May 15, 2009 after a lengthy illness. He served in the Navy in WWII and was stationed two years in North Africa. After the war, he attended Northwestern State University, where he earned a degree in business. Most of his employment years were with Manville, where he was the Office Services Manager. He retired in 1987.
He was married until his death to my cousin, Betty Davis Bruce, daughter of my aunt, Ina Belle Stallings Davis.
Bruce was a member of First United Methodist Church for sixty years. He served as board chairman two times during that time. He was a member of the Anna Gray Noe Sunday School Class serving several times as teacher and as class president. He was also a member of the local VFW.
Bruce enjoyed his family, friends, church, as well as reading and traveling. Some of his most cherished time was spent with his coffee group that meets every week day at ULM. They call themselves the U.L.M. Mafia and claim to handle the world's issues on a daily basis.
