Pioneering woman who traveled back and forth between Connecticut and California following her husband the sea captain. Her diary can be found at Mystic Seaport library along with the Chinese cloissonne bracelet that her husband E.S. brought back to her in 1851.

Widow of Captain E.S. Farnsworth Passes Away at the Age of Eighty
BERKELEY, Jan. 22. [1910] -- Mrs. Mary E. Farnsworth, widow of Captain E.S. Farnsworth, who for 25 years commanded a steamer of the Pacific Mail Steamship company on the Panama run, died last night at the home of her daug hter, Mrs. Theodore Gray, 2540 Benvenue Avenue. She was nearly 80 years of age.
Mrs. Farnsworth's husband entered the service of the Pacific Mail company in 1851 and remained in its employ until 1878. . He died in 1883 .
Mrs. Farnsworth came to California from her birthplace in New London, Conn., in 1850 , by way of the isthmus of Panama, and lived in San Francisco up to two and a half years ago, when she removed to this city. She still, however, retained her membership in the First Baptist church of San Francisco, of which she was one of the first members.
She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Theodore Gray, Mrs. D. Frank Dodge Jr., Charlotte Farnsworth, and a son, Julian W. Farnsworth.

FARNSWORTH -- In Berkeley, Cal., January 21, 1910 , Mary Emma Weaver Farnsworth, widow of the late Captain E. Seymour Farnsworth, and beloved mother of Mrs. Theodore Gray, Mrs. D. Frank Dodge Jr., and Charlotte and Julian W. Farnsworth, a native of New London, Conn., aged 79 years 10 months and 10 days.
Friends and acquaintances are respectfully invited to attend the funeral services tomorrow (Monday), January 24, 1910 , at 2:30 o'clock p.m. from the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Gray, 2540 Benvenue avenue, Berke ley. Interment private.

MRS. FARNSWORTH DIES IN BERKELEY
Pioneer Woman of San Francisco Passes Away in Eightieth Year.
BERKELEY, January 22. [1910] -- Mrs. Mary E. Farnsworth, aged 80 years, widow of the late Captain E.S. Farnsworth of the Pacific Mail service, died at the residence of her eldest daughter, Mrs. Theodore Gray, 2540 Benvenu e avenue, today.
Mrs. Farnsworth was born at New London, Conn., and came to California in the early fifties, and settled in San Francisco until two years ago, when she came to Berkeley. Her husband was well known in the steamship service, and for many years plied between San Francisco and Panama on the Pacific Mail vessels.
Mrs. Farnsworth was a personal friend of General Hallett and other pioneers of San Francisco. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Theodore Gray, Mrs. D. Frank Dodge Jr. of Mount Vernon, N.Y., and Miss Charlotte Farnsworth of Los Angeles, and one so n, Julian W., who resides in Redwood City. The funeral will be held on Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the Gray residence on Benvenue avenue, and the services will be conducted by Dr. Burlingame, pastor of the First Baptist Church of San Francisco.
