Lifetime Delta resident, Joe Crespin Abeyta Sr., passed away on Thursday, August 9, 2012 at the Delta County Memorial Hospital. He was 81 years of age.

Joe Crespin Abeyta was born to Amelio and Della (Hererra) Abeyta on August 9, 1931 in Delta, Colorado. He spent his childhood and attended schools in Delta.

Joe honorably served his country with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

On June 8, 1957, Joe married Minnie Armendariz in Delta. To this union, six children were born. The couple celebrated 57 years of marriage together this year. Minnie survives.

Joe, a retired butcher and sports fan, enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming, gardening and spending time outdoors. He also loved model airplanes, his dog, listening to country music and playing his guitar. Joe loved life and was a jokester; he loved making people laugh and telling stories. He would always say "Never say goodbye, say see ya later…" More importantly, he loved and cherished his family. Joe was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Delta.

Joe is survived by his wife, Minnie Abeyta of Delta; six children: Joe Crespin Abeyta, Jr., Richard Abeyta, Carol Trujillo, Michael Abeyta, Marie Abeyta and Albert Abeyta all of Delta; two sisters, Delphinia Pieto of Ogden, UT and Lena Garcia of Delta; and two brothers, Lupe Abeyta of Delta and Amelio Abeyta of Ogden, UT. Joe is further survived by 15 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Joe was preceded in death by a grandson, David Lee Abeyta; one brother, Jimmy Abeyta; four sisters: Rosie Abeyta, Josie Diaz, Annie Alarid and Mary Conickas; and his parents.

A viewing for family and friends will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Friday, August 17, 2012 at St. Michael's Catholic Church. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 18, 2012 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Delta with Father Canice Enyiaka presiding. Burial will follow at Mesa View Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.
