Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 15, 2010, at a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial in Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Scott, for Tuney Arceneaux, M.D., 79, who passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at his home.
Entombment will be in Sts. Peter & Paul Mausoleum.
Reverend Thomas Voorhies, Pastor of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Scott, will be the Celebrant of the funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Giftbearers will be Ennita Castaneda, Mercedes Acuna and Heather Arceneaux. Lectors will be Elaine Ross and Marcell Bergeron. Eulogist will be Russell Arceneaux. Ron Moreau, soloist, accompanied by Phyllis Simar, organist, will sing "Amazing Grace", "Ave Maria", "I Will Never Forget You" and "Battle Hymn of the Republic" for the services.
A native of Ossun and resident of Duson for most of his life, Dr. Arceneaux completed eleven years of school, graduating as Valedictorian of his class and went on to attend SLI (Now ULL), where he graduated in 1952 with a Degree in Chemical Engineering. He worked a short five months when he was drafted into the United States Army and completed his tour in duty during the Korean War. Following his tour of duty, he decided to go into medical school. Dr. Arceneaux completed medical school and opened his office on August 20, 1962. He resided in Duson until this great physician went to meet the great Shepherd in that Mansion reserved for people like Dr. Tuney Arceneaux.
Over the years Dr. Tuney Arceneaux has claimed many honors. While attending SLI, he became the first active President of Kappa Mu Epsilon, a national mathematics fraternity. He also served as secretary of Delta Sigma, the honor engineering society. Dr. Arceneaux attended medical school in New Orleans and was a member of Phi Chi, the medical fraternity and is a graduate fellow American Academy Family Practice.
Dr. Arceneaux is a member of the Lafayette Parish Medical Society, the Louisiana State Medical Society, American Academy of Family Physicians and was an active staff member of Lafayette Regional Medical Center and Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center, where he served as former Chief of Staff.
Dr. Tuney enjoyed work and it has always been a pleasure to him. He has cultivated over 300 varieties of daylilies at his home and also enjoyed growing plumerias and different plants, which he shared with everyone. Dr. Tuney enjoyed photography and at one time shared a darkroom with his brother, Lincoln, where they both developed their own pictures. Dr. Tuney Arceneaux will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Maria Concepcion Acuna, the love of his life of 27 years; six brothers, Linden Arceneaux and his wife Nordeen, C.J. Arceneaux and his wife Terri, Lincoln Arceneaux and his wife Jean, Ellender Arceneaux and his wife Cathy, Russell Arceneaux and his wife Brenda and Earl Arceneaux and his wife Barbara; two sisters, Dolores Menard and Loula Guilbeaux and her husband Donald; his uncle and Godfather, Claude Sonnier; four aunts, Bertha, Louise and Annette Sonnier and Clothilde Broussard and her husband Lloyd; one brother-in-law, Rafael Acuna and his wife Mercedes; two sisters-in-law, Martha Silva and her husband Carlos and Enna Kidder and her husband Lee; many nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; and extended family, friends and patients.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ulysses (Magee) and Anna Sonnier Arceneaux; one sister, Anne Buller; his brothers-in-law, James Buller and Oran Menard; and one niece, Marie Annette B. Comeaux.
Pallbearers will be Edwin Castaneda, Dr. John Charles Dugal, Ronnie Guidry, Don Guilbeaux, Jeremy Arceneaux and Russell Arceneaux.
Honorary Pallbearers will be his uncle, Claude Sonnier, Dr. Wilton Bergeron, Lee Kidder, Linden Arceneaux, C.J. Arceneaux, Lincoln Arceneaux, Ellender Arceneaux, Earl Arceneaux and Rafael Acuna.
The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's Scott location on Friday, May 14, 2010 from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM and on Saturday from 8:00 AM until time of service.
A Rosary will be prayed on Friday at 6:00 PM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home.
The family would like to give special thanks and deep appreciation for the wonderful care, prayers and help given to Dr. Tuney by Doctors, family, friends, neighbors, Pastors and co-workers.
