Christine Altus
Christine Altus, age 91 of West, passed away Sunday afternoon, October 22, 2000 at West Rest Haven.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Gerald, with the Rev. Gene Kotrla officiating. Burial followed at Gerald Cemetery. The family received visitors from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Altus was born May 14, 1909 in Weinert, the daughter of Martin and Julie Gerik Petter. She attended school in Ross and lived in the Leroy area all her life. She married Rudolph William Altus on January 12, 1928 in Gerald. He preceded her in death on November 17, 1990. She worked as a Designer for Powers Embroidery and Fab Knit, both in Waco, for over 20 years before she retired in 1984. She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Gerald, where she worked as a custodian, taught the children's Sunday School class for many years and was a member of the Women's Guild and the Metallic Age Group. She was also a member of the Leroy Home Demonstration Club.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Wilma and Don Richter of Leroy and Esther and Jim Hailey of Whitney; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were her grandchildren, Brad Schrader, Donna Richter, Brian Schrader, Julie Richter Smith, William Richter and Bruce Schrader.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Kitchen Fund.
