Miriam Elaine Grasz was born 28 May 1918 in Nappanee, Indiana, to Floyd and Tressa Wilson Grasz. She grew up in Nappanee and graduated in 1936 from the Nappanee High School in 1936. She worked for a few years as a stenographer for the Indiana State Employment Office in Elkhart, Indiana. On May 6, 1938, she married Howard Allen Field also of Nappanee. In 1945 they moved to Turlock, California and in 1950 to Fresno and then in 1972 to a home on the golf course outside of Kingsburg. She and Howard had an antique business for many years. She was also an accomplished musician and played the organ for churches in Nappanee, Turlock, Fresno and Kingsburg until she was told by the wife of the minister of the Kingsburg Methodist Church that she was not good enough to play the church's new organ. This broke her heart and she never attended church again. She continued her antique business for many years after Howard died. She and Howard had three sons, Eugene, John and Dennis. She was an avid genealogist and collected an amazing amount of information before the advent of the Internet. Her information is the basis for an extensive website on the Field family and many others. For more information on Miriam refer to www.luciefield.net.
