Daughter and youngest child (of three) of Edwin Johnson & Alice Rosena (Ferguson) Cooper.
Her sister Anna Mariah (b. 1878) died at age 6 in Feb. 1885.
In Nov. 1889, when she was eight years old, her father, who suffered years of verbal and physical abuse from his brother Peter on the family farm, shot and killed her Uncle Peter. Her father was sentenced to prison in March 1890. Her mother divorced her father in 1891 when she was ten. When she was 13 (Oct 1894), her mother Alice remarried to William Wieselman. She had two half-sisters; Lillian, b. 1896 and Florence, b. 1899.
Laura married John George Acker Jr in 1903. They had three children: Frances (b. 1904), Marie (b. 1906) and Harold Edwin (b. 1917). The middle name of her son was for her father Edwin, who was released from prison in 1910 and died in 1913.
Her brother Richard (b. 1880) died in 1931 and was buried with their father. Her mother died in Jan. 1939.
Widowed in 1953, Laura Acker then moved to Oregon where her daughter Marie lived. Laura lived to age 91 and died in 1973 in Forest Grove, Oregon. Survived by her three children. Unsure of any grandchildren or great-grandchildren. Buried with her husband in Greenfield, Wisconsin plot.
