Riley Amick, passed far too early from this life on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 while in Galveston on a fishing trip. Our hearts are broken, yet there are so many great moments in Riley's brief run on this earth that we have all been enriched.
Riley was a Native Texan, born October 15, 1987, in Houston. He was a 2005 graduate of Pearland High School, where he played trombone in The Pride of Pearland High School band. He also played piano and guitar. After high school, Riley attended Baylor University and Alvin Community College but soon found himself drawn in other directions. He eventually joined the waitstaff at Eddie V's, a fine dining restaurant in the River Oaks area in Houston. Riley was all about being with all kinds of people and this great restaurant was another place for him to be in his element.
Riley was an Eagle Scout with Troop 404 and spent many years in the Boy Scout program. He made the Philmont Trek, a 50-plus-mile hike through the New Mexico mountains three different times, including his last trek to make the hike with his brother.
Things had really started to fall into place for Riley during the last year of his life. He fell in love with Crystal Terry, and they began making plans for the future. His family felt he had truly found the right girl. He also discovered a new passion for fishing, and began spending as much time as he could on the water. In fact, friends and family agree it had been the best year of his life.
Riley will be remembered as an amazing son, a supportive brother, a good friend to all and a best friend to many. He was always among the first to start a team, to move a friend, and could always be counted on to help out however was possible. He had a smile that lit every room and that smile is the first thing that most people remember about him.
Riley is survived by his parents, Phil and Debby Amick ; Crystal Terry, his girlfriend; siblings Katy Lawson, Emily Amick and Arthur Amick. He is also survived by his grandmother, Deloris Amick of Franklin, Indiana; his great aunts, Mildred McCabe of Covington, Virginia and Ann Basham of Graham, North Carolina; his loving Godmother, Diane Latson of Houston; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews as well as countless friends.
Visitation will be held from 5 pm to 8 pm on Sunday, August 5, at the South Park Funeral Home, 1310 North Main St., Pearland, Texas. Funeral Services will be held at the same location beginning promptly at 12:30 pm on Monday, August 6.
Among all other things, Riley was a friend to every dog he ever met and did his Eagle Scout service project for the local animal shelter. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations are directed to the Brazoria County Humane Society.
