With the onset of the Civil War, Charles enlisted to serve with the Second Pennsylvania Cavalry, 59th Regiment, Company H, on December 31, 1861. The following obituary appeared in the April 1, 1918 issue of the Bethlehem Globe Times: "Charles W. Mohn died Saturday at the county almshouse of general debility, aged 91 years. Deceased was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Mohn of Belfast. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. William H. Crawford (Julia), of Nazareth, and Mrs. Frank Buchecker (Elenora), of Allentown. "Charley," as he was known, was a jeweler and watch dealer, and is said to have sold more watches than any other man in this section of the state. He traveled through Northampton, Bucks, Monroe, and Lehigh counties and traded many articles of jewelry."
