Elizabeth Vail Blount Hatch came to Alabama with her husband Alfred Hatch and their 4 children in 1840. They settled outside Greensboro, Greene Co. They had 2 more children and became plantation owners.
In 1856, Alfred bought 3000 acres of land in Marengo County from his brother Rev.Lemuel Durant Hatch. This became Arcola Place,now listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
They also owned another plantation Cheney Place.
